One little problem, besides the obvious one--in our house, we have text messaging blocked. We don't have a plan that supports free texting, and do not intend to pay extra for it.

A good point. But alas this shows once again the power of web 2.0 to reduce cost. Schools flocked to buy all those electronic clickers which were terribly expensive. The students already have what they need. Unlimited texting would probably be a must.
