One of our ongoing goals is to increase the Catholic identity and strength of our school community. To that end, beginning this year, we have added a campus ministry program. Ms. Becca Sitte and John Donnelly serve coordinate and lead the campus ministry program. Becca joins us after a number of assignments and leadership roles with FOCUS and John expands his duties while still teaching theology and coordinating the Christian Service Program.
The goal is to provide our students with more opportunities for spiritual growth and to develop their faith during their high school years. So far this year we've been able to implement a stronger system of student retreats, form numerous prayer and bible study groups, enhance the Bishop's leadership team, and implement a school wide system for developing discussions during the advisory period tied to reinforcing the values of the school. Mission trips are also being planned. The first trip announced this week is for this summer. We'll be sending a team to Joplin, MO to help with the rebuilding of homes.
A number of our students are getting involved in these programs and a student driven campus ministry team is now forming. I had a chance Friday to sit down with a number of our student leaders and hear their thoughts on the work.
