Two weeks ago the new encyclical by Pope Benedict entitled "Caritas In Veritate" (Charity in Truth) became available. The pope's encyclical declares itself to be a reiteration of Paul VI's forty year old encyclical "Popularum Progressio" on a call to authentic human development.
I'd encourage you to click on the highlighted text above and give the new encyclical a read. The content includes an examination of the weaknesses of our current economic system especially in light of the recent crisis of credit and economic turmoil. The call to form men and women of strong moral character becomes even more important as the world becomes a more globalized place.
How well are we doing? Are our students leaving our doors with the ability to see the problems our world faces through an authentic Catholic world view where human beings have value not because of their economic potential but primarily because of their humanity formed in Gods image? Are we teaching this and teaching this well?
