Outsourcing
I've recently enjoyed reading the "Four Hour Work Week" by Tim Ferriss. It's a different way of looking at retirement and work in general that runs against the grain of most modern thought. You know how I love crazy thinking. One of the intriguing areas of this book rests with the concept of "outsourcing". We all understand what outsourcing is in the corporate world. Jobs that are low skilled are shipped to the lowest bidder maximizing corporate revenues. Of course this practice is not without its detractors. How long will China really want to be the world's factory? Is this type of rapid industrialization sustainable in light of its environmental impact?
Ferriss points out however a different type of "outsourcing" that is growing in popularity - that of personal outsourcing. How about paying someone a few dollars an hour to take care of your Christmas shopping list, return the bulk of your email, or grade papers? It can all be done.
